everything is not what it seems
wood, air-dry clay, ink, mirrors, wire17" x 8" x 8"
The sculpture shown above titled, everything is not what it seems, showcases a surprise element through the rather simplistic bird house-like cabinet that changes with the opening of the doors. From the outside, the cabinet is wooden, painted black, with only windows/handles that reveal detail and change. One will peek at the round openings to question the faces, appearing as figures with human anatomy. When the doors are opened, the entire mood shifts. The two "people" are actually a crow and a cricket, enveloped in a white room, with mirrors lining the walls. The inspiration behind this work stems from greek mythology, and more specifically centaurs in greek mythology stories.
